2nd & 4th Tuesday
Toastmasters in the Moreton region offer students, employers, employees and anyone who wants to grow their confidence, the opportunity to improve speaking and presentation skills.
Public speaking is recognised as one of the greatest fears for most people. Yet, it is a skill that is so necessary to most of us. Students usually need to do oral presentations in their course of study. Employees need to interact with customers on a daily basis. Employers need to interact well with staff and others. Any of us can find ourselves in a situation where we are required to speak in public. It may be at a wedding or perhaps a funeral. Intimidating for most of us, but it does not have to be.
An opportunity exists for everyone to overcome these fears in a fun, supportive and friendly environment through experiential learning. That is, to learn by doing.
Toastmasters clubs run Speechcraft courses which can start you on that journey of self improvement. In the Moreton region there are several clubs that welcome visitors. It costs nothing to visit a club and find out what happens at meetings. You can find details of clubs by visiting www.toastmasters.org and go to “Find a Club”.
Members join for many reasons apart from gaining confidence in public speaking. Some join for the social aspect of meeting new people. Others join to help them to advance in their careers. There are also members who use their Toastmasters skills to help them grow their own business. Some members from non English speaking backgrounds join to improve their English.
Wendy, a mature aged student, recently attended a Speechcraft course and had this to say:
Breakthrough Time! I have crossed the bridge of fear, Woohoo!
Gaining experience standing in front of others and speaking, trusting myself to have a go. The renewed sense of growing confidence and positivity is now so tangible to me. As a mature aged student, not studied for 20 years, doing a bridging course at USC, my confidence, voice and health felt quite withered, evident by my retreating posture in most situations.
Now I have this experience of resurrection and recharge in mind and body. I have been heartened by the empathetic support of two ladies, highly skilled Toastmasters.
Thank you both, from my heart to yours!
