Together with over 30 years of environment management experience working in the construction industry. Mat and Dam identified a huge gap int he basic environmental knowledge for workers across the construction industry. Environmental awareness for all workers on site is presently limited to a 'once-off' General Induction, which incorporates a small 'environmental and heritage' component. Envirocard aims to bridge this gap by minimising the likelihood of environmental harm on site through application of basic environmental initiatives.
Although every person has a General Environmental Duty of Care not to cause environmental harm, workers on site remain either ill-informed and not accountable or unaware of the potential harm they might be causing. When construction workers are aware of the environmental responsibilities and the consequences of their actions it has a positive effect on how they approach tasks. This reduces the likelihood of employees engaging in activities that breech minimum environmental standards, which costs money in rectification, potential fines, and loss of employment. Envirocard is set to become the globally recognised mandatory minimum standard for construction workers.
