Turn your bright idea into a reality at Startup Weekend Moreton Bay

Calling all budding Entrepreneurs, the global franchise Techstars Startup Weekend is coming to Moreton Bay for the first time, where individuals with big ideas will work together and hear from mentors, investors, and sponsors, to found and build a business.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the inaugural Techstars Startup Weekend Moreton Bay offers individuals an invaluable 54 hours, giving participants the framework and mentorship to transform an idea into reality, with team formation, user research, prototyping and pitching to investors.

“Participants are in for a whirlwind weekend, giving them unique insight into building a business in a fast-paced and fun weekend,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Aspiring entrepreneurs will get first-hand experience into the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life as a startup, fittingly hosted at USC Moreton Bay, the hub of innovation and bright ideas for our region.”

“As our region strives to become a top 10 regional knowledge and innovation hub as outlined in the Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS), adding Moreton Bay to the list of Techstars Startup Weekend hosts, is a step in that direction,” continued Mayor Flannery.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a global organisation and network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. 7,000 Techstars Startup Weekends have been delivered in more than 150 countries, to 428,000 participants.

Steve Butler, Regional Innovation Coordinator is excited for participants to buckle up for the action-packed Techstars Startup Weekend and get amongst the fun.

“On Friday night, the individuals pitch their idea, and teams are formed around the favourite ideas. As a group, they have the rest of the weekend to work and create a business, before pitching it to a panel of local judges on Sunday,” Steve said.

“The weekend isn’t so much about prizes, or winning, rather it’s about the experience of being involved and having the inspiration and confidence to take that next step in your entrepreneurial journey.”

“A number of Techstars Startup Weekends see groups create the companies in ‘real life’ and have gone on to have huge success”.

“Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill set, or a team to help you execute, Techstars Startup Weekend is the perfect environment to test your idea and take the steps towards launching your own start up.”

Techstars Startup Weekend Moreton Bay will be held from Friday 10 until Sunday 12 June at USC Moreton Bay.

Registration is free and open to anyone in Moreton Bay Region and surrounds.
