The MILLovate Board has welcomed its inaugural CEO, with project manager Stuart Pickering starting in the role this week.

Mayor Peter Flannery says Mr Pickering brings the right balance of private and public sector experience to be both practical and expedient.

“Stuart’s extensive experience in strategic planning, economic development and urban planning is exactly what we need driving interest and investment into The Mill PDA site,” Mayor Flannery says.

Experience in complex projects

“He’s known for delivering complex, challenging, high profile and significant strategic property portfolios - including responsibility for delivering the incredibly complex $215 million restoration of Brisbane’s City Hall.”

Mayor Flannery says he is looking forward to Mr Pickering developing strategies to attract technology and innovation investment at The Mill PDA that will differentiate the region from everywhere else in South East Queensland.

“Most importantly, his remit is to help drive economic recovery and job creation on the other side of COVID-19.”

The most exciting job in Queensland

Mr Pickering says he is excited to take on the challenging role of MILLovate CEO and work with one of the largest and most progressive Councils in South East Queensland.

“This is literally the most exciting job in Queensland and a once in a generation opportunity to deliver one of the largest urban development projects our state will see,” he says.

“Projects of this scale and complexity don’t come along very often and the opportunity to help transform the Mill PDA site into a thriving precinct makes MILLovate uniquely important at this moment in time as we look for opportunity and economic recovery.”

Mr Pickering says investors are aware of the near-limitless possibilities of the greenfield site.

“But I don’t think locals have yet fully conceived its full potential, so I look forward to sharing this journey with them.”

MILLovate Chair Nigel Chamier welcomes Mr Pickering’s appointment to the role of CEO.

“I look forward to working with the board of directors to create a thriving new precinct in the region that will generate thousands of job opportunities for locals in the years ahead," Mr Chamier says.
